Challenges

In 2005, the Region of Peel proposed to improve and widen about 1km section of the Forks of the Credit Road near Mississauga Road in the scenic town of Caledon. The road had been deteriorating with potential instability of the side slopes, which imposed danger in various areas to the public.

The proposed works required grade separations up to 7m high along the road alignment and solutions to construction difficulties. These challenges included sharp turns, variation of side slope batters, partial submergence in the Credit River, protection of exiting railway bridge pier, project boundary constraints and stringent landscape/aesthetic requirements.

Solution  

With Terrafix’s assistance, the Consulting engineer successfully addressed all the challenges by applying most of Terrafix’s broad spectrum of retained soil systems to the project.

Advantages     

Terrafix’s systems are flexible reinforced slope/wall systems, which are easy to install, site adjustable on configuration and able to accommodate vegetation.  With provision of design (sealed construction drawings), material supply and on-site technical assistance from Terrafix, the contractor was able to complete the entire project within the tight schedule and below the project budget.  In addition, the owner was very pleased with the final outcome.    

In 2005, the Region of Peel proposed the improvement and widening of Mississauga Road throughout a 1km section through the scenic City of Caledon.  Due to the nature of the rolling hillside terrain, roads began to deteriorate from the instability of the side slopes which imposed danger in various areas to the public.
