Pipes
Honda Canada (Alliston Plant)
PROJECT ENGINEERS - Giffels
CHALLENGE
Honda needed to expand its parking facility on the east side of the plant to accommodate future building and plant expansion projects. Honda needed to have cost savings on this phase of construction as well as meet tight timelines for completion. The project was originally specified with concrete pipe in various diameters up to 1200mm.
SOLUTION
Weholite HDPE pipe! Working together with the engineers at Giffels, Greg Parker of Honda and John Gawn of Provincial Excavating Ltd., the team at Terrafix were able to provide technical data supporting the suitability of Weholite HDPE pipe for this project. The pipe was produced in 7.5m lengths which allowed the contractor to install it quicker than they would have with 2.44m sections of concrete pipe. Since Weholite HDPE pipe weighs less than one tenth of concrete pipe, it was easy to move around the site, off load from the delivery truck and fast to install.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Terrafix was able to save time and money for Honda! Total savings on the project were substantial and the contractor finished the work 11 days ahead of schedule, including the 9 days lost to rain. Greg Parker of Honda said “You won’t see anymore concrete pipe going in at Honda. We love this pipe!” and John from Provincial Excavating Ltd. said “It’s easy to handle, work with and fast to install, even with the trench box. This will give our company a huge advantage and a chance to compete in this market.”
