MTO Elliot Lake
CHALLENGE
An existing 2743mm diameter CSP was failing under Hwy. 108, north of Elliot Lake. The existing culvert had completely rusted through at the spring line and the culvert had begun to collapse. Jim Sullivan of the MTO, a representative of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Andrew Bird met on site to discuss rehabilitation options.
SOLUTION
After an on site discussion and review of the existing conditions, it was agreed that Terrafix would provide drawings for the MTO which included settling pools at the inlet and outlet of the liner pipe. The MTO and DFO accepted our plan design and drawings were sent to the MTO within three days of the site meeting. The existing 2743mm diameter CSP culvert was to be sliplined with a 2134mm ID Weholite liner.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
A tight fit!! Chris Solomon was the supervisor for Belanger Highway Maintenance on this project and it was his crew’s first experience with sliplining. Andrew was on site for the first day of construction and assisted with technical advice for the installation. Chris and his crew was very hard working, patient and took on the project like true professionals. The existing CSP culvert had collapsed to a point that the crew had to shear off the bolts of the CSP, in order to get the liner through the worst section. Congratulations to Chris and his crew for doing an outstanding job!
